Welcome to Student Work at Reed!

Basic information and answers to frequently asked questions are available below.

If you would like help finding an on-campus job opportunity or navigating on-campus work, contact the Student Work Coordinator via email, phone, or making an appointment via the contact information on the left. 

What kind of on-campus jobs do students work in?

Almost every office and program on campus hires student workers! There are a wide variety of jobs that students work in at Reed. Students work in the library, the sports center, the bookstore, as tutors, tour guides, mentors, event coordinators, office assistants, and so many other positions on campus. The positions available vary from year to year based on the needs of offices, as well as the number of returning students continuing in a job. The best way to know which positions are available is to check Handshake regularly (twice a week if you are actively seeking work) for new postings. 

Eligible students can also apply for off-campus Federal Work-Study (FWS) positions, which allow students to earn their FWS wages while working in non-profit organizations and public agencies in the Portland area.

Handshake: Reed's Job Board!

is Reed’s job board for both on-campus and off-campus positions. Incoming students will receive an email to their reed.edu email address over the summer providing access to their Handshake account. If you need help navigating Handshake for student work, reach out to the Student Work Coordinator using the contact info above. For more detailed examples of types positions on campus, check out the student work job catalog.

On-Campus Student Work Positions 

Almost every office and program on campus hires student workers! There are a wide variety of jobs that students work in at Reed. Students work in the library, the fitness center, the canyon, as tutors, mentors, event coordinators, office assistants, and so many other positions on campus. 

Open on-campus student job opportunities are posted to on Handshake. 

Reed Student Senate Appointments 

The Appointments Committee appoints students to a variety of committees and positions on campus. Serving on a committee is a good way to get involved on campus and learn how the college works. Appointments opportunities open on a weekly basis and are advertised through Handshake as well as the Student Body Info newsletter. Numerous positions are available each semester. Students are encouraged to apply to appointed positions throughout the semester, and to re-apply to positions if not initially successful.

Off-Campus Federal Work-Study Positions

If you have Federal Work-Study as a part of your financial aid package, you are eligible to apply for off-campus Federal Work-Study positions with SEEDS. This program allows motivated students to be paid to work in Portland nonprofits, public schools, and public agencies as one way to earn their Federal Work-Study. Ready to apply for a position?

What do I do once I’ve been hired?

Congratulations! If you have not already, you must fill out hiring paperwork in the Business Office before you begin working. See Student Payroll Services for more information on what you’ll need to fill out and bring with you.
