Description: Medical Assist
Location: Campus

Notes: A student arrived at 28 West requesting help bandaging an injury. A CSO helped the student and provided medical supplies to the student to reapply the dressings at a later time should it be needed.

Notes: The CS Director put a No Contact Order in place between two students at the request of the Title IX Coordinator.

Location: Campus

Notes: A CSO responded to a request for medical assistance and met with a student who had been injured while playing basketball. The CSO provided first aid and encouraged the student to go to a medical clinic for further evaluation of the injury, the student agreed they would do so.

Notes: A CSO responded to a vehicle break in at the West Lot. They met with a student whose rear car window had been shattered. The student stated that nothing appeared to be missing from the vehicle. The CSO encouraged the student to also file a report with the Portland Police Department and the student’s insurance company.

Notes: CSOs responded to a request for medical assistance on campus. They met with a student who had received a minor burn injury on their arm. Upon arrival the CSOs observed that initial first aid had already been provided for the injury. The CSO’s applied additional bandaging and recommended the student follow up with a medical professional should the burn begin to bother them.

Notes: A Community Safety Manager (CSM) on patrol encountered a campus map which had been defaced with a sticker possibly advocating for violence. A work order has been submitted for the sticker’s removal.

Notes: The Community Safety Director (CSD) on patrol with a CSO trainee (CSOT) encountered the odor of cannabis near the Student Union. The smell dissipated as they searched and they were unable to locate the origin of the smell.

Notes: A CSO responded to a noise complaint at the 好色导航 apartments. The CSO made contact with the resident, and after making sure everything was okay, reminded them to keep the noise down as it was after 10pm.

Description: Disorderly Conduct
Location: GCC

Notes: The Community Safety Director (CSD) encountered unknown individuals in the GCC trying to tie a latke onto a nylon cord that appeared to be suspended down from above the ceiling panels. Upon closer inspection, the Director observed that the other end of the cord was being held by an unknown individual who had gained access into the space between the ceiling and the building’s roof. The Director was unable to determine the identity of the individual holding the cord and by the time it was determined that access had been gained via the Weapons of Mass Distraction (WMD) closet, the person who had been above the ceiling had left. A maintenance request was placed with facilities to correct a gap between the ceiling tiles and the wall in the WMD closet that was allowing access to the space above the ceiling tiles.

Notes: A CSO on patrol observed that one of the campers parked on Steele St was on fire. Dispatch confirmed with 911 that a fire truck had already been dispatched.

Location: Grove Lot

Notes: A CSO who had just completed their shift encountered an unknown individual looking through the dumpster in the Grove Lot. The CSO alerted the individual that the college is private property and that college policy prohibits searching through the dumpsters. The individual became immediately hostile toward the CSO, shouted slurs at the CSO, physically grabbed the CSO’s jacket, and attempted to spit on the CSO. The CSO removed the individual’s hands from their jacket and immediately created distance between themself and the individual. The CSO then took a photo of the individual for documentation and possible identification. This prompted the individual to exit campus.

Location: Anna Mann

Notes: A CSO and CSO trainee (CSOT) responded to a report of alcohol use in a designated alcohol-free area of Anna Mann. Upon arrival, the CSOs encountered two unknown individuals who ran away upon seeing them. The individuals left behind 8 beers which were taken back to 28 West for proper disposal.

Description: Evidence of Drug Use
Location: Grove Lot

Notes: A CSO on vehicle patrol encountered the odor of cannabis. The CSO observed a group of unknown individuals standing under the trees east of the HCC and the CSO concluded that the odor was most likely emanating from one or more individuals in the group who appeared to be smoking something. The individuals walked away before the CSO could approach the group and make any inquiries.

Description: Unattended Alcohol or Drugs
Location: Library

Notes: CSOs on patrol of the library encountered an unattended case of sealed alcohol at a thesis desk. The CSOs found the receipt for the alcohol providing the owner’s name, the alcohol was brought back to 28 West and placed in an evidence locker for safekeeping. The owner later contacted Community Safety regarding the alcohol and was told they could come retrieve it at their convenience.

Description: Noise Complaint
Location: Anna Mann

Notes: CSOs responded to a noise complaint at Anna Mann. The CSOs could hear music and conversation from multiple people inside the residence, and the CSOs encountered the strong odor of cannabis that they determined was, more likely than not, emanating from inside the room. The CSOs knocked on the door, and while the music and conversation ceased, the occupants declined to answer the door. The CSOs noted their observations and cleared from the call.

Notes: CSOs responded to a report of a No Contact Order (NCO) violation. After meeting with, and discussing the situation with both individuals involved in the NCO, the CSOs escorted one of the individuals out of the building at the direction of the CS On-Call Manager.

Notes: A CSO on patrol of GCC encountered a near-empty bottle of vodka and a half full beer. After no one claimed ownership of the alcohol when asked, the CSO took it to 28 West for proper disposal.

Location: Trillium

Notes: A CSO on patrol of Trillium encountered a case of unopened alcohol in the first floor kitchen area. The CSO took it back to 28 West for proper disposal.

 

CS Survey Responses

Every week Community Safety requests survey responses from those who've had interactions with a member of the Community Safety team. These responses are always collected anonymously with the option for the responder to leave contact information if they would like for a member of Community Safety management to contact them, and are used internally for departmental performance tracking. Community Safety has opted to publish these survey results for transparency and community accountability. *Names and pronouns mentioned in survey responses will be redacted to protect the privacy of individuals.

In addition to surveys sent directly to those who have interacted with Community Safety, the Reed community is always encouraged to independently complete the survey regarding Community Safety's performance.

Other Complaints or Comments (please specify) my door lock is broken and I was locked out Surpassed expectations the cso that arrived was great, I expected to not get back into my room but he unlocked the door quickly and was very nice!
