Description: Fire
Location: Sequoia

Notes: A CSO responded to a fire alarm in Sequoia. The CSO observed water coming out of an electrical room north of the server room and noticed a burning smell. Community Safety contacted building services and the Portland Fire Department. The Portland Fire Department shut off power to Sequoia and determined that there was no risk of fire and that the scene was safe. Building services concluded that the alarm was triggered by the alarm sprinkler system being activated and are following up on the reason for the alarm activation.

Description: Trespass, Medical Assist - Other, Medical Transport - Other
Location: Campus

Notes: A CSO on patrol encountered an excluded Reed community member. Community Safety contacted the Portland Police Bureau to report the individual for trespassing. After consulting with the individual, the Portland Police Bureau requested the individual be transported to a nearby medical facility for further evaluation. The CSO remained on scene until the individual was transported off of campus without incident.

Location: West Lot

Notes: A CSO responded to a report of graffiti on the retaining wall of the West Lot. Building services has been contacted for removal of the graffiti.

Description: Suspicious Person/Activity/Circumstances
Location: Birchwood

Notes: A CSO responded to a report of a possible illicit interaction between an unknown adult and a minor. The CSO spoke with the reporting party who stated that they had witnessed the interaction that took place outside of their Birchwood apartment. The reporting party provided descriptions of the two individuals.

Location: Residence Hall

Notes: A CSO responded to a request for medical assistance in a residence hall. The CSO met with a student who had received an injury. After the CSO provided initial first aid, the student decided to go with a friend to an urgent care center for further care.

Location: Campus

Notes: A CSO on patrol encountered an individual they described as being extremely agitated. CSOs monitored the individual from a safe distance and observed that the individual was possibly in possession of a knife. . Dispatch requested Portland Police Bureau (PPB) assistance. PPB arrived fairly quickly, and after identifying the individual, arrested them on an outstanding warrant.

Notes: A CSO on patrol encountered an excluded Reed community member on campus. They made contact with the individual and escorted them off campus.

Description: Theft from Structure
Location: GCC/Commons

Notes: A CSO conducting an unlock at Commons encountered an individual who appeared to be stealing food from an outdoor freezer. Before the CSO had a chance to make contact with the individual, the individual abandoned the food and drove off. After the individual drove off, the CSO inspected the scene and discovered the freezer had not been properly secured.

Notes: A Community Safety Manager (CSM) received a report from a Reed community member regarding an unsettling voicemail they had received from a non-community member. The CSM followed up on the voicemail and concluded that there was no need for the Reed community member to contact the individual who had left the voicemail.

Location: West Lot

Notes: A CSO on patrol in the West Lot encountered a vehicle with a shattered passenger side window. The CSO ensured the scene was safe and took photos to send to Dispatch for reporting. The owner of the vehicle later contacted Community Safety regarding the break in.

Description: Animal Issue, Medical Assist - Other
Location: Administrative building

Notes: A Community Safety Manager (CSM) responded to what sounded to them like a dog fight in their vicinity. The CSM encountered a Reed community member who appeared to be cleaning a wound in a nearby sink. Two other community members were assisting the injured community member.  One of the community members stated that the dog of one of the community members had bitten the other community member while they had been interacting. After consulting the injured community member, a fellow community member escorted the injured party to a medical care facility for further medical assistance.

Notes: CSOs on patrol discovered graffiti on the wall of stairwell A of the Library. Building services has been contacted for removal of the graffiti.

Location: Campus

Notes: CSOs responded to a request for assistance regarding a student. The CSOs met with two Reed community members who were assisting a student who appeared to be unwell. The CSOs conferred with the student, who accepted an escort back to their residence. The CSOs contacted the Area Coordinator for further follow up and, after confirming that the student was well enough to be left alone, cleared the scene.

Notes: A CSO on patrol encountered an excluded Reed community member. The CSO reminded the individual they were excluded from  campus and the individual promptly exited campus property. 

 

CS Survey Responses:

Every week Community Safety requests survey responses from those who've had interactions with a member of the Community Safety team. These responses are always collected anonymously with the option for the responder to leave contact information if they would like for a member of Community Safety management to contact them, and are used internally for departmental performance tracking. Community Safety has opted to publish these survey results for transparency and community accountability. *Names and pronouns mentioned in survey responses will be redacted to protect the privacy of individuals.

In addition to surveys sent directly to those who have interacted with Community Safety, the Reed community is always encouraged to independently complete the survey regarding Community Safety's performance.
