Woot Woot…spring is here! And to celebrate, I’ve ventured out today in search of some food inspirations. Yes hibernation is over & the shedding begins. The air is crips & the sun warm & comforting & today I want to be immersed in sunshine.
I have a small garden out the back, mainly flower beds, but also every herb you can think of, rosemary, thyme, basil, sage, parsley, chives & bay leaf. I’ll show you one day. It’s such a satisfying feeling to walk out in the yard & find that I have a bouquet of herbs at hand. Even the smallest of spaces can provide any keen cook wonderful green herbs that provide flavour to foods all year round. I couldn’t live without fresh herbs. You should see my neighbours yard. Serious lovers of greens. Lettuce, spinach & collards fill their garden bed and way too many for any family to consume on their own.
After a 2hour long morning spent at the hair salon getting my spring new look, I headed to the fruit market in search of some vibrant, healthy spring vegetables. The fresh peas were to die for & the eggplants resembled the colour of gems displayed on a crown. I couldn’t go past them. With a bowl & apron in my lap, I sat in the sunshine shelling peas. I remember doing this as a child with my nonna. There is something soothing & calming about simple tasks like this. For me it was reflective, reminiscent and meditative.
Now, what to do with these beauties? Hmmm I feel a spring risotto coming up.
