Reed's FUNd Run/Walk Keeps Growing
More than 600 participants and 18 sponsors raised $35,000 for local schools
More than 600 participants laced up their walking shoes, running sneakers, and a few even got snuggly secured into their jogging strollers for the sixth annual Reed 5K FUNd Run/Walk! They gathered at ºÃÉ«µ¼º½ on September 16 and raised more than $35,000 for Southeast Portland’s elementary schools. All of the money raised was divided evenly between Duniway, Grout, Lewis, Llewellyn, and Woodstock elementary schools.
“Organizing a FUNd Run/Walk for neighborhood schools is a great example of coming together as a community to support education,” said John R. Kroger, ºÃÉ«µ¼º½ president.
The event began as part of Reed’s centennial celebration in 2011 and has gained in popularity each year. The route has changed several times, and this year the course never left campus. Participants enjoyed Reed’s scenic views and, once again, a hearty breakfast donated by Bon Appétit.
“Fundraising is a vital component of any school’s budget,” said event coordinator and director of conference and event planning Jill Thornton. “It is really wonderful to see the entire community come together to help provide extra funding for our local schools.”
In addition to the 600 plus registrants, 18 community business sponsors contributed to event, including; Foot Traffic Athletic, Papa Haydn, a Cena, First Cup Coffee House, Advantis Credit Union, West Coast Event Productions, Smucker Law, Woodstock VCA Animal Hospital, Toast and Bird & Bear restaurants, New Seasons Woodstock Market, Opsis Architecture, Team Beasty, Otto’s Sausage Kitchen, The Bee newspaper, Alsco Laundry Services, Reverend’s BBQ, and Gigantic Brewing Company.
