Alexis Howard has been a teacher and performer in Portland since arriving in 1999. She has worked extensively as a clinician with local schools, in addition to performing with various music ensembles around the area. Ms. Howard holds a Bachelor of Music in clarinet performance from the University of Idaho where she studied with Dr. Roger Cole. As an undergraduate, Ms. Howard was a member of the Washington-Idaho Symphony, as well as a performer with the Summer Palace Theater at Washington State University. She attended both the Marrowstone and Northern Arizona University summer music festivals, participating in master classes from clarinetists Charles Neidich and Charles West. For graduate studies, Ms. Howard enrolled at the University of Oklahoma and earned a dual Master of Music degree in clarinet performance and music theory, studying with Dr. David Etheridge and Dr. Michael Rogers respectively. As a graduate assistant, Ms. Howard was exposed to myriad clarinet performers and teachers through the annual OU Clarinet Symposium, including Larry Combs, Howard Klug and Dan Johnston. Ms. Howard has performed with a variety of ensembles throughout the Portland area including Oregon Symphonic Band, Oregon Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, Pacific Crest Wind Symphony and Willamette Falls Symphony.
